Million Pixels - UK: Pixels, pixels everywhere and not a drop to drink. Sorry, just popped in my head. Anyway, back to Million Pixels (the UK version). Joe and Tom, two ambitious young brits with their eyes on a piece of the pixel pie. Once again, the premise is simple - sell pixels to raise money to pay for college (or uni as they call it across the pond). A very slick pixel page and some smart marketing is making this pixel page a strong contender for a place on the pixel pedestal, whoa - enough "p" words for ya there? Joe wouldn't give up until I did a review for him. So, you get an A+ on persistence and may the sun always shine on the left side of your face. Oh, before I forget: Here's the rate sheet: Basic - 1 block on the homepage for absolutely nothing! Advanced - 2 to 20 blocks on the homepage for $20 per block (20¢ per pixel). Premium - 21+ blocks on the homepage for $50 per block (50¢ per pixel).

20 Cent Pixels: Ok, this whole pixel thing started out with Alex and his Million Dollar Homepage right? So, where do you go to get the most traffic to you pixel ad? Yes, very good, you go to the source the MDHP. That's excatly what the owner of 20 Cent Pixels has done. Not only is he getting 15,000+ uniques a week, but for every 9 blocks you buy on 20 Cent you also receive a free 10x10 block on MDHP. In other words you get twice the traffic at 1/5th the cost. 9 blocks will cost you only $180 and you get a $100 spot on MDHP with your own fixed link pixel ad. Brilliant!! Troy at 20 Cent has a huge ad on MDHP and it's surrounded by reserved blocks that will be filled with the free pixel blocks he is giving away. Go check it out.

Pixel Lottery: Lottery anyone?? Everyone loves a good lotto, the chance to win gazillions of dollars for nothing. Well, maybe not gazillions, but Pixel Lottery will put you in a drawing for up to $5000 and 4 people will win $1000. As more pixels are sold your chances of winning increase. So, if you wanna win some moollah simply go buy some pixels. They're quite cheap, only $25 per block, a steal. This just in: Once the number of pixels sold on Pixel Lottery rises to 900,000 there will be a giveaway of 25,000 semolians, yes $25,000 to the lucky winner once only a measely 900,000 pixels are sold. Free money in exchange for buying a few pixels, what a deal.

World Adverts: Who wants to buy a piece of 'Whistler's Mother'? No, literally, you can buy a block of pixels (48x28) right on top of Whistler's Mother. You pick where ya want it. You can cover up her nose, her kerchief, or anything else in the painting you want, up to you. Really a unique idea...what will they think of next? Oh, oh, I got one Pixel Legos. Anyway, for a paltry $50 you can secure a piece of dear ole Mom. Check it out, it's really pretty cool, great image and such.

Pixels Ad City: Free baby, 100% free. We all like free stuff don't we? Pixels Ad City will let you send in any 20 block ad (any size, any shape) and he'll kindly post it on his site. Of course it's called a City for a reason. Why, you may ask. Because it's shaped like a city. What did you think, it was an underwater tour of the Titanic? Hmmm...an underwater pixel page...has merit, yes? Who's gonna start it?
Top Pixel: And I quote "Only 100 pixel block spots – pixel blocks are segmented in various pixel block spots, with each block decreasing in size from the #1 (enormous 120,000 pixel) block spot, down to the last #100 block spot. In order to replace a current block woth your ad you simply outbid the current advertiser. When your pixel block gets knocked off the page – you receive a full refund! After the page is filled with $1 block spots, the spots increase by a few dollars. So in many cases people will get free advertising if their ad gts knocked off." I got that bit directly from the site owner. To be honest with you, I didn't quit "get it." But hey, the page looks damn fine and the possibility of free advertising should make poeple flow to the page.
Wall Flyers: Wholly moley, they grow when you water them. Well, they grow when you click em. The ads that is. Wall Flyers has an new devious twist on Micro, Nano, Pixel (whatever you wanna callem) ads. For a paltry $49 (up to $299) you can post a huge Nano ad and when it s clicked it grows to many times it's size. And as the name states, they "fly." Meaning, hold your left mouse button down once you've clicked the little sucker and you'll be able to move the ad anywhere your little heart desires, only rule is you gotta stay on the screen. Very cool. Oh, the page background is the...insert dramatic pause...Berlin Wall! What will they think of next. I'll be watching this one, it's uniqueness makes it truly stand out from the crowd.

Pixels Anyone?: Ok, ok I admit it. I wasn't entirely impressed the first time I glanced at this site, but I have now must retract that statement. I just got off the phone with one of the owners of Pixels Anyone? and I must say that out of all the pixel page owners out there I think these guys and gals "get it" the best, well alomost as much as we do at least ;-) The site is backed by what we call a "heavy hitter" in the internet marketing world (JPE Advertising) and needless to say "they know what they are doing." In only a week or so online they have more growth than anyone other than the original MDHP in the same amount of time.

Lemme just hop in my little time Machine here for a sec and look into the future of the pixel ad. Shazaam!! Ok, here we are a year in the future and who do I see apart from Pixel List and a very select few as one of the preeminent leaders in the now world renown pixel ad industry, well it's none other than Pixels Anyone? and it's many children.
Blow Up My Ride: Nothing like a crappy car and some explosives to get people excited. Like I've been saying, "if you're going to make any kind of impact in the pixel industry you must be unique." True that this page doesn't have a ton of ads (yet) but uniqueness is not something it's short on. Once the word gets out about this page I feel you'll be seeing a lot of people going back just to see how close he is to blowing up the POS Escort. And if you read the fine print, he's not only going to blow up his car, but use the money to buy his girlfriend a new one too - What a guy. Vee shall see, but again, if you ain't got a ton o' traffic you can make up for it woth a great story.
Pixel SEO: and I quote the owner of Pixel SEO in saying "It will be an experiment, as you know the pixel hype is pretty new but the debate is on whether or not such pixel pages can be optimized..." The mad scientist strikes again! Can a pixel page be Search Engine Optimized? No one knows - not yet at least. Not until Pixel SEO jumps out there and tests the waters. Hopefully you know the power that SEO can have to any page and if this guy gets it figured out the $100 you sent on a 10x10 block on this site will be WELL worth the investment.

Million Penny Porn Page: What to say, what to say... Let me give you a quote directly from the Terms and Conditions "No bestiality or child pornography sites will be accepted." At least that is cleared up. Other than that I suppose you can put any damn thing you want to up on this one. And there's even an explicit photo at the top in case the title doesn't clue you in. Pixels cost 1 British pence each or 1 Pound a block (I'd use the groovy "L" if I had it on my keyboard), but who really cares anyway. If you've got a porn site to promote go ahead and slap up an ad on this bad boy and see what happens.
The Million Pixel Homepage: Here we have a pretty normal looking pixel page. In fact extremely normal. C'mon now, If you are going to just copy the original idea you really should come up with a better unique idea than "we sell our pixels for one tenth the cost of MDHP." That's just not good enough, in my humble opinion. So, in short, if people are going to make it in the pixel business they need to sit down and come up with a spin of their own, get creative, something, anything! Unless you can drive mass traffic to your site you're going to need a catchy jingle to start any kind of viral marketing push to your site.
Pixel Supermarket: When you think about a supermarket what comes to mind? Shopping, food, fruit, vegetables, and the crappy toys you used to spend all your allowance on when you were a kid, right? And these things are all housed in what? AISLES!! Yes, your right aisles, congratulations you win today's prize. Joking aside, the above is exactly what Pixel Supermarket has done. They are a UK based team with much marketing experience who have taken the pixels for sale concept and added detailed categories (aisles) and the same value of the coupons you snip from the newspaper (a free 10x10 block to get you started and your ad seen). They have just launched and I am personally impressed by the proffesionalism of their design abilities and general customer relations.

Brad Fallon: For those of you in the know you know who Brad Fallon is, for those of you who don't let me educate you. Brad Fallon is the preeminent Search Engine Optimization (SEO) expert anywhere today. He is among the ranks of Perry Marshall and the like. What does he have to do with pixel ads? Well, Brad sees pixel ads beyond what the vision of Alex Tew and MDHP, he sees an entirely different vision, silmilar to our own. Brad has launched a small pixel ad are on his highly trafficked Blog to test his theory. He has placed a banner on the top of his page that is segmented into pixel ads and of course sells the space by the block. We wanted to help him in his test and bought an couple blocks for Pixel List. Wouldn't you know it, we are getting 3 times as much traffic from Brad Fallon as we are from MDHP. In short, Brad is a marketing/SEO genius and he sees the long term potential of pixel ads which makes me feel really good about all the effort we're putting into this site and our others: $100k/$250k/$500k.

Commercial Town: And another twist enters the pixel world. Well, in this case "the pixel town." Here we have an artist's rendition of an urban setting. Blimps, airplanes, high rise buildings, sports stadiums, the works. And as in any capitalistic city every space inch is sold off as advertising space. In this case they are pixel ads of course ($0.25 per pixel sold in 20x20 blocks for $100). I see a microcosm of our commercial society in this page. Soon they will have to upload a bum in the alley and a celebrity driving by in her limo to make it complete. Another incredibly unique angle on the pixel advertisement and I'm glad to say I'm in an industry that allows so much creative freedom as this one.
Pixel Flasher: Now now, I know what you're thinking. Pixel flasher, c'mon get your head outta the gutter. True, that there's a lovely woman winking at you from the top of the page, but the main attraction is what happens when you mouse over an ad. The idea here is to meld the static pixel page gif ad with an animatd ad and not make the page look like crap with all the tiny moving ads. Solution? Place static ads on the page and upon mouseover an animated gif ad pops up and shows your dancing ad in all it's "flashing" glory. Lotsa potential with this one. I'm telling ya, these sites are getting more and more creative. What's next? The talking pixel ad? Or have I spoken too soon???
Pump Up The Dots: Now this is just cool, really, damn cool. Here's how it works: You go buy a pixel ad like normal (well a dot actually) for $100 per dot and then it gets exciting. Your ad stats out small and each time a certain number of unique visitor click it your ad grows. I know, I know...."why didn't I think of that?" The famous growing dots are upon us and for a measly $100 you can watch your very own dot ad grow, and growth means more traffic, which means more moolah in your pocket. This pixel stuff just gets weirder and weirder.
Ten Pixel Marketing: Here we have one of the more proffesionally put together pixel sites I've seen in a while. Pricing is very reasonable (one 10x10 block for $10) makes sense I'd say. I spoke with the owner of the site for a while today and he's an excellent guy. He's got a ton of marketing and technical know how to get your ads seen by the masses. Judging from his testimonial section his advertisers are doing pretty well already.

Canadian Pixel: Now the Canadians are among the pixel proffesionals! What's it all aboot? Canadian Pixel page is a pretty basic pixel page. Priced in Canadian dollars @ $0.02 per pixel and $2.00CAN per 10x10 block. The USP these northerners are going for is that their pixels are damn cheap and they will make sure your ads are seen. Fairly basic and to the point I'd say.
Tartan Pixels: The Scots have entered the fray!! Tartan Pixels sells "wee scottish dots" with a twist. This is the first time that I've seen a pixel page that gives the "owner" of the pixel ad complete control over their individual ad. Meaning, once your ad space is bought ($0.044 per pixel, $4.40 per block) you can move, change, adjust, or even sell your space through the Pixel "backoffice" that the Tartan page provides. Again, someone's taking the pixel industry to a new level of proffesionalism, kudos to the Scots.
Million Pixel Page: One of the more proffesionally run pixel pages that I've come across. The owner sends out a regular newsletter keeping his clients updated on the goings on. This site started out as a free pixel page. You can still grab free space and sample images are even provided. Although, it seems that Million Pixel Page has realized that there is gold in them thar hills and has started selling "premium" pixel space above the free area. A novel idea actually, build up the reputation and traffic of the page with free listings and then offer paid space for the serious advertisers to take advantage of, Brilliant!! Something tells me that we will be seeing a lot of action from MPP in the future.

Million Quarter Webpage: Uh, oh - looks like MDHP might have some competition. Million Quarter Webpage is in the top 10 on the Alexa Movers and Shakers list, a huge accomplishement. These guys seem to be looking beyond just selling pixel space. They are driving traffic to their page, hence the high Alexa ranking, and have plans to roll out an entire line of T-shirts, mouse pads, coffee cups, and the like to further promote their page. They are also guarunteeing that Million Quarter Webpage will be up for at least 10 years, rather than the regular 5 year guaruntee. And as the name says pixels cost $0.25 each and $25.00 per block. This is currently one of my most highly recommended sites.
Million Pixel Booty: As we all know one of the most important factors in any advertising campaign is your USP (Unique Selling Position). Million Pixel Booty has developed a Very uniquie USP. When you go to the page you are greeted by a picture of a beautiful woman (fully clothed) showing her own "million dollar booty" off. The image is overlaid with a semi-transparent pixel grid and you can buy pixels in the usual way. For pixels not touching the woman the charge is $1.00 per 10 x 10 block, for those touching or covering the woman the charge is $100 per 10 x 10 block. Here's the kicker: this site will continue to snag plenty of traffic simply because of the unusual way it's set up and people will continue to visit it to find out how much of the "booty" is still visible. This one's gonna be around for a while, mark my words.

Pixel Bay: Keep your eyes on this one. It's run by a HUGE publicly held Online Marketing company with huge resources (meaning contacts and capital) to drive traffic to your pixel ads. Pixel Bay sells 10x10 blocks for $100 and has cleared $20,000 in its first few days online. If you look at the traffic MDHP had in it's first week and compare it to the traffic Pixel Bay received in just the first few days you'll see why you need to keep this one on your radar. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see these guys zoom right past MDHP in their first month online. Success in the Pixel Ad arena has to do with raw traffic pushing ability and Pixel Bay has an enourmous amount of just that.
Pixels By The Dozen: Wowza, technically speaking this is one of the best pixel pages I've seen. For every pixel ad you post there is a mouseover feature that pops up a 144 x 144 of your company logo (or whatever picture you want diplayed). I can see this feature being very valuable to advertisers since now the surfer will see more than just a tiny "micro" ad, they'll see a "full size" banner ad popup. PBTD is selling pixel space at $72 minimun order (144 pixels) and your URL will also be rotated through a Featured Listings section on the homepage. Oh, and 10% of all profits are going to help with the hurricane relief fund.
100k/ 250k/ 500k Homepages: Wow, the pages are excellent. Great design and whoever is writing the blog is hilarious. I wonder who owns these 3 homepages? Oh yeah, we do. Yes Merlin and Harris have joined the pixel fray. Hey, we figured if we're going to spend all this time reviewing pixel sites we might as well have a few of our own too. So, hop on your mouse and click on over to those links above and buy yourself some pixels. Trust me when I tell you that we get A LOT of traffic - just read our blog...wink wink.
Sex Million Dollar Hompage: No further discussion needed here. It's an 18 and up pixel homepage with porn site banners all over the page. It had to happen, sex sells I suppose - to the wrong people.
Pixel Profits: Yet another ingenious twist on Alex Tew's original idea. Pixel Pr0fits sells pixels for $1 each ($100 for a 10x10 square), but here's the twist. Once you place your image ad up the next person who purchases pixel property from the site will first have to click on any one of the existing ads during the purchase process. That click chooses that ad's owner to share in 50% of the monies paid to buy the pixel space. So, not only do you get to place your ad and get traffic, but you also have the potential to make back more than your original investment in time from the 50% commisions. Only 1400 blocks are available for sale.

Adalot: Ok, as pixel page creativity goes Adalot is a pack leader. Here you don't get to place a simple 2-D pixel ad, but a 3-D structure that represents your site. What's the purpose? The owner wants to build his own little SIM city online with streets, trees, cars, people, and buildings. Each building is an ad - kudos to Adalot. $100 per block and you have to buy every block your building touches.
Million Dollar Dungeon: It had to happen I suppose. The first "anything goes" pixel homepage. I won't reproduce what this guy allows on his site, there might be kids reading this. An as yet empty page selling pixel space for $1 per 10x10 block.
Million Blinken Lights: A pixel site with a sense of humour. Blinken lights is a parody of the pixel industry and is written with a crazy German accent. Also, all the ads are animated .gif images so once this page fills up it'll be a cacaphony of little dancing ads. One penny per pixel or $1 per block/
One Million Dimes: I am rather confused here. A good looking page that seems to have quite a few pixels sold, but the navigation links are dead. There's no way to communicate with the webmaster or buy pixels.
One Million Pixels: A very simple $0.05 a pixel ($5 per 10x10 block) page with a unique feature. When your pixel ad is moused over a full size banner for your site pops up in the upper right corner of the homepage. Not much else to say about this one at the time of review - check back later.

Sunday, October 02, 2005

Your Own Dream Car: And yet another unique spin upon the original concept. You not only get to buy pixel ads for $45 a block but you also get to enter to win a Ferrari, one entry per block. The contest is a intresting twist. Although, I see it more as a way for the owner to make more money rather than the advertisers to get more traffic to their sites.
250,000 dot ORG: A few things about this site. One, he's selling lotsa pixels meaning losta traffic. Two, when I first found this page he offered a $25,000 prize to the winner of his contest (ok, good idea). But, I take a peek a few days later and he's dropped the purse to $2,500, c'mon now - if you're going to offer a prize you can't reduce the purse in the middle of the race. That just ain't cool. And finally, I open up the page today and who do I hear screaming out of my speakers? Bon Jovi!?!?! You're killing me with the Bon Jovi here and at least have the courtesy of putting a mute button on the page so we don't all have to suffer your bad taste in music, pleeease.
Million Quarter Homepage: And once again we have a total ripoff of Alex Tew, but hey at least he admits it and says he's just doing the same thing at a quarter the price. Looks like someone is buying pixels here though, so it must be getting some traffic.
eBay Pixels: Brilliant!! The only ads you'll on this page link directly to an eBay auction, well most of them at least. This guy's in the UK and sells his pixel blocks for 10p each (not sure what that means in cents), but still a novel idea.
Road to A Million: Ok now, I just don't get some people. MDHP was built to pay for college tuition and these folks come out and say they need $1,000,000 to keep mom home with the kids. The pixel revolution must be protected!! People can't just throw a site up to beg for money with - jeez.
101 Billboard: A good concept, but a boring site. A billboard shaped pixel area with 400k blocks available at $100 per block. I've been watching this one for a little while and see no action happening here.
Ad Graffiti: Here's a guy who's thinking on his toes. His pixel ad site is segmented into categories and you get to choose which category/page your ad gets placed on. Selling for $0.50 a block. Also has a realy cool mouse over text popup that gives a 200 word description of your site, product, or service. Owner's a really cool guy.
Buy Brian A Beer: Here's a unique twist - "Brian" is a normal guy who wants you to buy him a beer. How you may ask?....well each pixel block costs $1 and a beer costs about $1 (the cheap domestic stuff at least), so buy a block and brian gets to buy a beer. Crazy concept eh? Lotsa wierd stuff on this one. Dug a little deeper into "Brian's" apparent plight and it seems an upstart marketing company is running this site in hopes of getting their name out in the world, and buying their friend Brian a lot of beer - good luck to you.
Rent A Patch: This is the original free pixel homepage. You just hop on and upload your .gif ad directly to the page. The author is even selling the code so you can create your own million pixel page. And a real great guy from across the pond to boot. Similar to the FFA days we all remember so well.
Million Penny Homepage: The first of the copycat websites to hit the mainstream. Charging only 1/100th of Million Dollar for ad space and therefore growing very rapidly in an attempt to raise $10,000 for the owner. Lots of traffic and just over 50% full at last check.
Million Dollar Homepage: The first of the pixel homepages. Alex Tew started the whole movement and in turn made over $200,000 in his first month online. In the beginning he just wanted to pay his college tuition and buy some new socks. A very intresting story behind the page.
